Hi all! I'm a new banjo player and would love a quality banjo set up local to me. My guitar guy doesn't know anyone, and I haven't foubd luck with google. Does anyone know someone who could do a simple set up? Also, glad to be a part of this cool community and nice to meet you all :)

You could go to some local jams and ask around. Word of mouth is your best bet when it comes to finding local information like that. Heck you might even find somebody there playing who is a luthier themselves. And most banjo players are able to do the basics for you themselves. Just go be real friendly!

Welcome to the Hangout and banjo.
My daughter and her family live in West Orange. I get there three or four times a year and would be happy to look at your banjo. But probably you don't want to wait.
Here's a list of Hangout members in Montclair. You might write to some through the Hangout to ask where they get their banjos set up. Many haven't updated their profiles in a long time. No way of knowing who's here. But worth a try.
Here are members in West Orange.
You can search for members in other towns by using the Member Search tool. Hover your cursor over "More" in the left navigation column. "Member Search" is the top item in the window that pops up. At Member Search, enter the town name you want and select New Jersey from the drop-down menu.
Good luck.

It's been years since I visited Lark Street Music in Teaneck but they may either be able to a setup or know of someone who can do it. Here is their website: larkstreetmusic.com/about.html It wouldn't hurt to call them and ask.

If you can make the drive to Staten Island, NY, Marc Horowitz is a master of banjo set up and does really great work.
