I am just a so-so clawhammer player. I started 3-finger some 30+ years ago but never could get the sound I was looking for. Started clawhammer about 4 years ago. I have a couple of banjos but basically play one more than the others. I have always played standing up. I seem to make a lot more mistakes sitting down.

In the past 1-2 years I have put on about 25 lbs. The other day I decided to adjust the strap to give me some more room and I can't believe how much better I'm sounding ! I can't remember how long it's been since I adjusted the strap. Maybe 8 years ago !

I'm thinking that this might be something that should be included in setting up the banjo.
Is there anything I should know about the strap placement ?

Usually, you adjust the strap where it hangs/feels the same whether standing or sitting. Since you don't sit, that doesn't help you any.

My only other suggestion is: have the strap where it's comfortable for your hands .. both hands ..while playing. Too high or too low and you can't be comfortable and relaxed.

Some may have other, better suggestions.

With the strap adjustment and weight gain, the banjo may be att a different angle and you are hearing it differently/better.
