Hello all, I have been away for a long time, but picked up my banjo again recently and am trying to learn a few new tunes.

Does anyone know this tune?: youtube.com/watch?v=qCqIyVa7NNg

I found it on YouTube, guessing it's in the CGCEG tuning for the Plucky travel banjo, and trying to translate it into double C for my regular scale banjo. It's very beautiful, with some Celtic undertones. Sounds old.

Thank you for any feedback and help.

Jason

...or Old Joe Clark in a different mode.

Why do you want to play it in double C tuning? The tuning cGCEG is equivalent to the standard G tuning, so if you watch the fingering it is easier to get it in G tuning.

Thank you all for the replies. I thought it sounded familiar, too, but can't quite place it. I know Old Joe Clark and Cluck Old Hen, but this seems different enough not to be just a different version of either.

Janolov, I will try the fingering in G. But I'm guessing on the tuning in the video, based only on the standard tuning for a GT Plucky.

This tune is called Fiddle Or A Dram.
Check out the Old-Time Tiki Parlor recording by Bruce Molsky, Can't Stay Here This a-Way.
He plays it in key of A, banjo tuned aEAC#E.
He relates learning it from a recording of the 1938 White Top Folk Festival.
Played by C.P. Wolford of Marion, VA.
Best Regards,
DanP.

Maybe Give the Fiddler a Dram,  e.g., youtube.com/watch?v=b6FLgVV2NJg ?  There are lots of recordings with that title.

...as in (Give the) Fiddler a Dram
