My parents were divorced when I was young, my dad would pick me up every other weekend. For a couple years after the divorce my dad lived out of a pickup camper, and that camper is were we slept even in the winter, most of the time on a side street in council bluffs iowa. My dad has been gone a long time now and I miss him. But the best memories of that camper was when my dad would take me to blue grass festivals.

Anyway I wish I wouldn't have waited so long, but better late than never. I'm getting into playing banjo and I'm loving it. I bought a used deering open back last year. About a month ago I picked up my new Hatfield banjo and what a beautiful and great sounding banjo. I'm having a fun time learning, and I'm going to a festival for three days this week, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Having Fun.

Wow....what a profound statement on the passing of time and what's really important in life!
Can you imagine what your dad would think if he knew that you finally got into playing the banjo?
Were you old enough to remember specifics about the music and the musicians?
Thanks for sharing!

My boys were 3 and 5 at the divorce. I am often surprised by how much they remember from 38 years ago. A lot of it is music memories, and they are both bound to music, and their instruments.
And DISH, being that I am a dad, it really touched me that you remember so much, too.
