If you've ever operated a marionette, you'll probably be a BIT impressed by these three:

That big? They're not marionettes, they're full-sized marions.

This is very cool. Inspired, at least in part, by a young girls whose father died with the Titanic. That's the art. Up to 2200kg/5,000 lbs? Moving? That's the engineering.
So art meets engineering. Both pursuits or disciplines are quite able to stand on their own merits. But when they meet, some really wonderful things can be created.
Now suppose that you take the human puppeteers out of it. Design it, build it, and let nature move and control it. Self propelled Strandbeests, powered by wind, which I may have mentioned before. Legos and Tinkertoys to the nth degree, driven solely by wind. Enter Theo Jansen. Unleash the strandbeests!!

Love me them strandbeests!
But, when the wind shifts, do they head inland, terrorizing suntanners and smashing beachfront changing cabanas like little Godzillitas?

I think that they sort of go rogue, as in Asimov's I Robot series. The only thing that could possibly save the suntanners and tourists before the wind dies down is the 6 Million Dollar Banjo Man.
I'm very much a fan of the Giants at Liverpool, but things like that have always seemed a bit scary and creepy to me. Even as a kid, I had a fear of things like that, which weren't human, but appeared to be. To me there seemed to be some sort of malevolence behind the smiling face. Kind of like a horror movie or something.

Yes, I am a BIT impressed. In fact HO-LEE impressed.
[ ... more so in that one of my ongoing projects is cobbling up some "clinker tongs" for our glamping escapades .... getting things the right length/configuration to balance (?) force/distance/direction, etc. But, but, but, aside from being a little short in the creativity department, I have the additional constraint of using stuff from my stash of odds-and-ends ... a.k.a. junk to some. ]

Never been glamping, have no idea what "Clinker Tongs" are used for, but I'm bubbling with creativity.
Wild guess: They're for touching something IN an active fire.
Let me know what you want done, and we might be able to come to an agreement on what you can make, with what you've got.

Thanks, Mike. We had clinker tongs like this, during part of my childhood, when we had a stoker coal heating system.
The "L" shaped piece of re-bar I'm currently using as a poker works okay as a poker, but I want something that can also serve as a rake and tongs. To get the rake function I figure the "jaws" should be more or less 90 degrees to the the "arm." [I had a full-sized drawing on a piece of cardboard last winter, but time seems to have sent it to the black hole. ] The hollow, light weight tubing I'm considering now for the arm/backbone became available when a wind mangled our shade canopy last summer. It has a hole midway along so that might be useful in figuring out a workable combo of direction, distance [want jaws to open almost 3ish inches] and force required.
Pics are of some of my stash .... the present "L" rebar along with the possible light-weight tubing are in the middle of one of the pics.... not short on raw material ... just wish my close-up eyesight was better and that I still used my oxy-acetylene outfit.

I spy, with my little eye, something shaped like a large L or almost a J.
Bottom far left corner.
Have you GOT the end of a garden rake in there, somewhere?
Saw off a hunk of that
Do you know how to weld?
I sure as Five Hit* don't.

Now, that you mention it Mike, I do have an old garden rake* laying about ... could well be somewhere in the "outdoor" pile .... might be able to make jaws [both inner/outer or front/back depending on perspective] of an appropriate length. Thanks.
I have a good AC stick welder ... never was great, but nowadays can't weld even as well as I once did [hand steadiness decreases with age, and cataract surgery about 5 years ago did a number on my close vision] ... I generally manage by putting down more than is needed and then grinding off the excess. Thin walled tubing presents another challenge .... sometimes can manage with another piece of tubing [inside or outside] to in effect double the thickness.
* - I think it had been thru a fire. It has one "tooth" missing, so I had initially figured I would break off every second one and make a rack for tarp straps, and when that didn't happen >>> a feeder for pieces of oranges for Orioles >>> now plan "C." In any event I "stole" it from the town dump, so I trust you'll keep that tidbit under yer hat.

What an amazing display of engineering and art! Thanks for sharing that.

Don’t give those beach walkers AI they might end up eating people. And those giant puppets(?) they look creepy. Reminds me of the stories I’ve read about and listen to on my favorite YouTube channel how some folks believe that Giants walked among so call modern man.
