I've waffled around playing techniques, but seem to finally be set on two finger. I like a plunky, sorta mellow sound, like clawhammer. That sound isn't ideal for every tune, but such is life.
I have a wonderful LeVan Super Woodie and a Deering Goodtime Artisan, both 11 inch openbacks.
I'm changing the Artisan to more closely mirror the LeVan. Ken shipped his banjo with a Remo BJ-1100-H6 head and GHS PF150 strings, although he said he changed the 5th string to 11g instead of 10.
The Artisan is currently sporting some sort of light strings, probably GHS PF170 'cuz I have 4 sets in a box. I'd like to switch to PF150 or similar, but in my notes I see that heavier strings may require too much tension for a Goodtime, and should be avoided, at least over long periods (emphasis on "long"). To my uneducated banjo mind it doesn't seem like switching the Artisan to PF150 strings or similar for a couple of decades would be an issue, but I'll readily admit that I don't know nearly enough to form an intelligent opinion.
So I'm tapping into the BHO hive mind. Please reply with your real world red pill knowledge. (I recently watched The Matrix, a mere 25 years after its released - not a movie guy )
Thanks.

Can't help with your question but curious if you will be tuning both banjos the same?

As an experiment, probably so. Long term, probably not.

GHS PF150's are very close in gauge to the OE set on a Goodtime. Should be no problem.
