I have been thinking about my next banjo. (For someday currently I own four.) lol
I've been thinking about those Dixie Land Jazz band players at Disneyland etc..
When I think of them, those quartet guys in colorful striped clothes, I imagine the banjo as golden and ornate.
Maybe I need to take a trip to Disneyland this year to just to check it out.
In looking at banjos, it seems like the Gold Tone OB 300 Grandee Tree of Life banjo best represents that ornate
style.
I'm not a fan of gold. But it seems like any self respecting banjo player should have one gold plated banjo.
What do you guys think?

Given my limitations .... I'll solve the gold/ornate banjo conundrum if/when I can see "self-respecting banjo player" up ahead .
My historic rate of progress says it should about 2424 ... give or take a couple of decades.
In the meantime I'll just look on them as being a bit ostentatious. [YMMV?? ]

LOL Thank you so much for the laugh.

If you're really determined to go the ornate banjo route, you should visit banjosbyrenee.com/ and work backward from there. Among dixieland players, you'd be right in style with one of hers. But I'm like Owen-- I wouldn't take it to a bluegrass jam unless I thought my picking would be way more dazzling than the banjo itself!

OH my what a remarkable banjo designer. I will never be good enough to play on one of hers. Not even If I live to be 146.

The Gold Tone OB300 is the Tree of Life model. The Grandee is a copy of the Gibson Granada. Gold Tone does not show either one of those in a four-string model which you would want if you wanted to play Dixieland music.
However, for $2700 I think you could get a lot more banjo than the Gold Tone OB300 if you look around long enough.
Should every self-respecting banjo player have a gold-plated banjo? I guess that depends on the banjo player. I had a gold-plated banjo and would love to have it back. But, for my playing nowadays, I am fine with what I have.
