Anyone ever played the tenor banjo part in William Grant Still's Afro-American Symphony? It's in the third movement and consists of playing chords on the off beats throughout.
I found a copy of the part online but it's not the original part, and I don't know what changes the arranger might have made. The chords in what I'm looking at appear to be based on GDAE tuning, not CGDA. It would be possible although more difficult to play most of them in CGDA, but there's one Em chord with a B in the bass, which would *not* be playable in CGDA unless it were played an octave higher.
I'll wait until I see the original part, but I'm thinking of using Irish tuning for the gig, or -- if the chords are really supposed to be an octave up -- either staying in CGDA and capoing at the 7th fret *or* trying to get my mandolin banjo repaired/set up in time to use it.

I’ve never heard it but will look for it online to be able to listen.
Thanks for posting.

The West Michigan Symphony performed this piece about two years ago. I do not know who the banjo player was. He wasn’t listed in the program. But here is their website. Perhaps they can assist.
