I was asking about construction of the rod but I found the answer.
I was trying to help with a very tight adjustment nut and creaking but after seeing a picture of rod thread and nut I believe the thread is worn with the pitch points looking a bit flat so I'm thinking the brass nut is also worn causing the creaking noise.
