I’ve been playing since may which seems like a long time ago but really isn’t in the grand scheme of things. I also dove deep into the rathole of music theory and have been working with some fellow faculty at the college where I teach as an adjunct (we have a classical conservatory).

I picked Bach’s Prelude in C which is 37 chords some of which are repeated. I tuned to C major from G tuning and then took the set of chords from piano which span nearly every major, minor l, 7th, diminished, super and more and learned where each of those is on the neck. The “song” is technically those chords broken and moving in and out from the Major C to a “devil chord” which is a dissonant sounding tritone until resolving. I modified my playing to use a drop thumb twice on each chord to give the full 8notes that makes up each broken chord.

I’ve learned the first 16 chords practicing each set of four 300 times per session and it’s really sounding good.

I think this blend of technical practice and theory suits my learning style very well.
