I just got done sealing my patio pavers. Much of the time i was on my right side using my right elbow for support. I think i may have irritate a nerve in my shouder because i tried to do a pull of ( actually a 3-2 push off, pushhing finger upwards) ,
And i find the finger hasnt got the strength to push down hard enough on the string to get a snap on the push off. I can put the finger down on string abd take it off, but i just cant give ut that extra oomph you need to do a snappy push off.
Anyone ever hsve this issue?
Im hoping its just temporary . Theres no pain involved, just weakness.
Never experienced this before. Guess im just getting old. Next time ill stand up and use a roller. I just thought using a brush would work the sealer in better for the first coat. Its my right middle finger, as im a lefty and fret with right hand

As I understand anatomy, most finger control is by the muscles, ligaments, nerves, etc. in the forearm. Heavy use of the elbow is suspect.

Thanks Dee.
As long as i know its only temporary, i will sleep easier. It just happened yesterday , so pray that it goes away soon.

One word can describe what you are experiencing right now. Age. I'm a few years behind you but I have noticed how some activities can cause residual effects for a day or two. You might have this for a few days and then it may go away. I have learned not to seek out medical treatment for anything until it has bothered me for four or five days.
Today I hurt in one place. Tomorrow I will hurt somewhere else. I've gotten used to it.

Nerve damage would usually involve pain and often numbness. I have permanent nerve damage that affects my fretting hand index finger and it doesn't affect the finger's mobility or strength. As a benefit, because I don't feel the tip of that finger, I can play with it longer as it doesn't get sore from playing too much.
Nerve damage typically originates near the spinal discs, not within the hand or shoulder (in this case). It sounds like you might have tired your tendon or muscle strength. That said, I'm no medical pro, nor do I have a complete understanding of nerve issues, just speaking from my own experience.

I thnk the age thing is the biggest factor
Hard to admit getting older and cant do like you used to.

Bottomline..it sucks getting old. The guy that originally coined the phrase "the golden years" probably meant it as a wry joke..referring to how often you have to pee..LOL

Just an update..
I think im about 80-85% better now. Just a day or two more should do it.Definitely from putting weight on that elbow for long time. Been icing the shoulder and taking anti lnflammatory meds .
I learned a valuable lesson in not overdoing certain things at my age.
I did grunt work in shipyard for 45 years. Kept me in relative good shape. Being retired for 2 years im still active and have done a ton of home projects since then but not doing the continuous labor has softened me up for sure.
Plus you get a real wake up call not to take the little everyday things (like pull offs)for granted. And maybe you get a little empathy for those who have it worse than you.
Lifes lessons learned
Thank you guys for the support and prayers. BHO brothers all

Most of the middle finger issues I have come from other people when I'm driving.

Ageing introduces some problems that we must adjust to, but gaining an understanding of how the hands work helps the process. There is very little muscle in the hand and, as someone already pointed out, the tendons in the hand are controlled by muscle in the forearm up to the bicep. The trick is to experiment with relaxing the fingers and tracing the movement to the proper muscles. Then there is the fact that the middle finger and the ring finger share a tendon, so if your middle finger is experiencing weakness, so is the ring finger.
I learned about this the hard way: When I was 30, I planted an acre of grapes on a clay hillside. This involved drilling 900 holes with a power auger and then going back and drilling more larger holes for the posts. After I was done with a good day's work, I had a gig that evening where I played banjo. This did not work out so well, and I had a case of tendonitis that bothered me for six months. Over time, one learns how to work a little smarter and preserve the hands. Anything that involves repetitive motion and working in stressed positions that kink the tendons results in no banjo

Gee. I can certainly relate to that one, especially after I go to bed. Up at 1:30, up at 3:30, up at 5:30, etc.

I can relate - another example of "repetitive motion"!
