Just bought a Gold Tone plectrum banjo with a detachable resonator, and detached it.

Slightly tongue-in-cheek newbie question:

What should I do with the resonator, now that it's detached? All answers welcome, humour appreciated, serious suggestions also appreciated.

Put it in a box with a bit of bubble wrap or brown paper to protect it. If you can, find a packet of silica gel to put with it for protection against moisture. In case you ever decide to sell the banjo, it would be nice to have the resonator so it can be reattached. Or you may decide in the future to put the resonator back on and play it that way.

Had not thought of the silica gel—thanks!

In the summer I use mine for a salad bowl. In the winter I clean off all the olive oil and balsamic vinegar ready for the following summer.

They make lousy frisbees, tend to leak as planters...too big for an ash-tray and too small for paella...

put legs on it, fill it with water, so the birds can splash in it.

Best thing to do with a plectrum resonator is to also take the neck off and sell them as a matching pair.

You won't get much, but whatever money you make will be a good start on a proper 5-string neck.

Store in the linen closet, about halfway down on one of the shelves.
