Every religion I've studied had, as a core belief, some version of
"Do NOT treat others in a way that you wouldn't want others to treat YOU!"
That would include stabbings, ain'a hey?
I had not seen an announcement that the Swiss Army Knife was not going to include a blade.
While Kellog's GRAPE NUTS has been able to get away with selling a product which contains NO grapes, and NO nuts, can a tool with NO KNIFE BLADE be LEGALLY called a knife?
Imagine someone recounting their survival of a crisis, saying
"Luckily, I had my Swiss Army paperweight with me!"
And imagine a Bad Person, who, upon discovering that the tool has no knife blade, stabs their victim with the corkscrew.

It kind of makes sense if someone wants to have a multi tool that they are allowed to take on an airplane. I’m just having a hard time imagining what that would be. It isn’t like you are allowed to take screwdrivers and pliers on an airplane either. Maybe you would be allowed at big concerts with such a thing.

The old post the headline and not the story trick.
Do a search and read the actual article. This post is misleading.
The facts: many European countries, particular the UK, are imposing major restrictions on knives based on a current moral panic around "zombie knives" and a few incidents of them being used in murder.
Sales for Victorinox are likely low, and looking for some promotion they came up with a scheme. But the scheme is 100% logical and legitimate.
The "blade removal" is really Victorinox designing multitools (cyclists are mentioned specifically) for specific uses that do not usually require a blade. They already offer a golf tool in this configuration so, really, this is not new or even newsworthy.
TBH, I have often wished there was a multi tool without a blade as my job has me flying to trade shows fairly often and it would be great to be able to have one in my suitcase. I don't check as it will either get lost/delayed or the handlers really destroy my suitcase. Every time I have been forced to check my bag it is damaged-- slices, covers in grease, wet, dirty, zippers broken. This is the real news story.
You will still be able to get a multi tool with a blade. That is not changing.
prooftheory you are incorrect, screwdrivers and non bladed tools under 7" are allowed in carryon, as are pliers, scissors (less than 4" from pivot point), nail clippers and the like-- all allowed. Since I can't have a knife, I always travel with a pair of Heritage 445 Safety Scissors that I keep razor sharp. Not once has an eye even been batted at them in security. Those scissors and a blade less multi tool would suit me just fine for travel.

Oh..so they did not..drop the blade to be complyant...?
Nothing missleading in what i posted at all..
As they have dropped the blade..
To be complyant.. with air lines as well as a few Countrys laws.
Yes you can still buy most any knife..
Just can not carry them on planes..

There's a big world out there. It consists of a bit more than the USA and aeroplanes. In a lot of it carrying a knife with a blade longer than a very few inches long (varying from country to country) is illegal. So it's purely a commercial decision. They'll still sell 'folding tool sets' (not sure what you call a penknife that hasn't got a knife) with blades but they'll also sell them without.
And beware if travelling abroad. I once had a small adjustable spanner ( wrench to you guys) that I used to re-assemble my travel banjo confiscated at the airport. So put ALL tools in your checked bags.

Many ordinary items, notably pens and pencils, can easily be used as weapons, yet the are not banned.

I am ok with a no blade multi-tool. But, I wonder, is a multi-tool with no blade compliant in the flying biz. There can be plenty of tools on their, I would not want to get poked in the eye with? Brad

Once they ban guns here, knives will be next. Same as in some European countries.
Owen - Posted - 05/13/2024: 07:03:01
So far, I've not found a use for a multi-tool .... I much prefer a task-specific version.
That's not to say I never pry something with the blade of my jack knife, or pound on something with the head of the Vice-grip instead of going for a hammer, or stir the campfire with a jack handle, but ...... ??

Al, your original post was phrased in such a way as to suggest that Victorinox was "dropping the blade" from all Swiss Army knives. Whether that was intentional or not, it is misleading.

Yes they dropped the blade to be complyant.
See above post..
Sorry for your confusion..

To be clear, they are not "dropping the blade" from any knife, only producing a new model that does not include a knife blade. They will continue making older models as before with knife blades.

There are more guns that people in the USA and gun production per year in the USA has increased six fold since 1960. I don't know who the "they" are you're talking about, but there is zero evidence that "they" are any good at banning guns. In fact, they stink at it. If the same "they" tries to ban knives, one could confidently predict that we would have six times more knives in the next half century.
Texasbanjo - Posted - 05/29/2024: 15:09:12
Every time "they" say they're going to ban something or make it more difficult to get, there's an immediate rush to purchase as many of them as you can find. At least that's the way it seems to me. No concrete proof on that, just my own thoughts.
