From Greylock to Bean Blossom - Posted - 03/03/2024: 08:32:26
I read about this occurrence in Thomas Goldsmith's book Earl Scruggs And Foggy Mountain Breakdown. Warren Beatty was awarded the American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award and asked Earl if he would play Foggy Mountain Breakdown as he was introduced. Earl accepted and when Warren came out he 1. waved at Earl and 2. came over to shake his hand. But Earl was playing FMB so in response to the wave, he waved back with his left hand. When Beatty came over to shake hands, Earl who was still picking extended his left hand but instead of shaking it, Warren Beatty kissed his left hand. Earl kept FMB rolling. Really neat stuff. youtube.com/watch?v=vggHy_Qt5-c
