I'd recommend seeking out Chris Hirsch and/or Tony Ullrich in Houston. Good luck!

Hi Bob

Not exactly what your looking for but Banjo Ben Clark run's regular Cabin Camps on his Farm in Kilgore north of Houston Texas. I do believe his sister Katie Lou teaches banjo also.

We have a teacher's list that you might check. You can do an advanced search and search for state and town and type of instruction. Go here: banjohangout.org/teachers/

There used to be a very fine banjo instructor in Pearland. I only remember his first name, Kerry (I think).
I’ve not spoken to him in years, so I don’t know if he still teaches banjo, or even if he still lives in the area.
You might consider getting in contact with the Bay Area Bluegrass Association. They are not far from you and I am sure they could help you find an instructor.

Update:
I’ve been able to locate the instructor’s name.
It is Kerry Jones. Again, I don’t have any current information. But at least there is someone to try to locate.

I've been taking weekly one-hour long lessons for almost 3 years via : lessonface.com It is done through ZOOM hookup...... out of the comfort of your own home, and your instructor does NOT need to be in your town or area..... I am very happy with it.

Hi Dickie,

I've been teaching via Zoom for over two years now and it works great. There is no charge for teaching via Zoom. Teachers have to pay lessonface a fee. I'm glad it's working out for you. Lessonface uses Zoom. I teach people from all over the world...Jack

You are correct Jack.....  I've never done well with simply watching 'how to' video clips from the vast array on youtube.  I need the real time interaction that zoom provides if and since there doesn't seem to be anyone in my locale available to give lessons.

I have though about approaching my instructor about 'cutting out' Lessonface,  but he seems to want to respect the set up and keep going through their 'toll booth'.....  my attitude is - the day I stop having a weekly lesson with my instructor, is the day I will stop becoming a better player!

Hi Dickie,
I didn't know you had to pay extra. I thought only the teacher had to pay extra...Jack

Speaking for myself, not knocking anyone’s preference, if there was a good instructor minutes away from my house, I would sign up in a heartbeat.

No... I'm not paying extra,  in fact I receive a 12% discount off of his 'standard rate' as a weekly student 'subscriber'
