Is there a replacement pip made of something besides plastic. The one on mine won't keep the string in place.

So one of those should drop right into the hole? What tool do I need to put a line in it to hold the string?

I start with a small 3 cornered file, then use an .010 gauge saw to make the slot. I usually finish it up with a length of .015 Mitchell's abrasive cord to smooth the slot.

Check out the pip questions in the search "Q" to the left of this page, lots of info. banjered

Not necessarily

Down & dirty: use a good ol' rounded top slotted screw instead as they are easily height-adjustable to boot.

I seen a video of using a slotted screw. Should I use a stainless or brass screw?

Can you post a close up photo of said pip so we can see what might be happening?

RK's site says those have a bone nut, so it's at least a good bet that the pip is, too. If the pip was tall enough to hold the string off the fret before the slot chipped out (which it pretty much must have done), there's probably enough left to just deepen the slot with a razor saw.

The pip on the RK35 I had was a piece of plastic. Traded it before I got around to replacing it.

Its 100% plastic. I used an exact knife and cut the slot deeper. It works but I ordered a bone one.

The website isn't intuitive on uploading pictures. I tried 3 times keeps getting stuck.

This is my third Rk 35. The other two had the square logo on the headstock but they had bone pips. This one is a darker color with script on the headstock. Which looks better IMO. But it has a plastic pip. They sound great IMO. Sold one when we moved from Ohio to Alaska. Sold the other one When we moved from Alaska to Illinois.
