My little student Rowan (8 years old) is doing well. She went to Backforty bluegrass festival in Missouri first of June. Her first outside festival. First night got in a small circle of 5. One of these guys is a friend I see at festivals. She sat down and started talking to these guys (60 to 75 years of age.) like they were old friends. She sang There is a Time by the Dillards and played What a Friend in Jesus on banjo.
Next day she was back again with them. She sat there for 5 hours. What kid does this? A listener there
approached me that Rowan has to go to Strawberry Point festival in upper Iowa. They have a kid music camp for 3 days to teach kids and adults how to play bluegrass music. He said this type of kid doesn't come along very often. He said her voice is pitch perfect and she's doing pretty well on the banjo. Camp was going to be expensive. He arranged it to give her a full ride paid Scholarship if she would attend. She'll be their end of August.

On that Thursday night she sang on stage in bluegrass karaoke using band members. You had to know the words, and the live musicians would play the song. She asked for There is a Time. They going oh wow, ok we have it figured out. She started singing and they were playing a fast tune I didn't know.
She looked at them and kept singing. She nailed it, even with the wrong song as background music.
There were around 200 in the audience.

This kids camp will be wonderful for her. Better professional teachers. They split the kids up per instrument and then put them into small bands. They then will be on stage to do 2 songs on the last night.

Rhonda Vincents bus was parked by the stage. My wife told Rowan that someday instead of Rhonda's, name on the bus it could be Rowan's name. She looked at my wife and said Rowan Vincent, I don't think so. She's 8. Her banjo now has Rhonda Vincent's signature. She's hooked on bluegrass. Yeah.

I hope she keeps it up, singing and picking. We need youngsters like her to keep bluegrass going.

Rowan watches videos all the time. Jim Pankey, Ned Luberecki, and Mike Heading have taught her so much. BHO has been a great source for her. I've used the tabs , and videos that meet her needs. Much of her abilities are natural, but they have to be given direction and that's where BHO has been a big source for her. So keep up all the great learning tools you employee here on the network. BHO has definitely been great for Rowan. Thank you all.
