I read a comment today from someone who wondered why people trapped in a burning room with a locked door don't break a nearby window and jump out even on a second floor where the possiblity of a broken limb is a better option than burning to death. I myself wonder why people being chased by a car intending to run them down run in a straight line in front of said vehicle instead of trying to dodge to the side under cover of brush or parked cars............... or why police use sirens when transporting suspects to the police station.

Bob, are those ^^ typical real-life examples or from movies? Maybe there's some "when you're up to your wazoo in alligators.... " involved??? In any event, you can add me to the list of those that "don't know why.... "
Having said that, I often "wonder" about all sorts of things.... have even been taken to task in BHO discussions for wondering. Some years back a colleague and I were crossing the school yard and I asked a couple of ""why" or "why don't they" questions and his retort was something akin to, "Je***, Owen, don't you ever stop thinking?!?" [So now, though Chuck will find it unbelievable, while I think that I think just as much, I don't think that my asking has kept pace. ]

Panic dose funny things..
As a kid catching frogs..on the train tracks.....
A trail came around the bend blew its horn.. spooked me to the point..of running strait down the tracks...
I remember thinking...
Well..this is stupid!...
N had the presence of mind to jump to the side....
That lesson has served me well throughout me life...
To remain calm..even under...stress..
But..at first..i did ..turn n run strat away from the danger..
Just a reaction i suppose...

That's the "fight or flight" syndrome that everyone should have. You either face your fears/aggressor or you run away from it.

I made this animated sculpture, from wood and coat hanger wire.
Even his curls are wood shavings.

Good one Mike. Whirligigs are [were?] commonplace in my wife's old stomping grounds in NS, and we usually had one* in the yard when we spent our summers there. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd probably adapt yours and make one. cherrytreetoys.com/plans/whirligigs/
* = the dude bucksawing wood was one of my favorites.

Movies are supposed to make it more dramatic; extending the time. Not necessarily supposed to make most sense; nor overthink it.
A scene I think of is when the person stands in front of vehicle with a gun...

I ask that all the time myself! Drives people nuts! They got me a library card & a city map at an early age. Figure it out yourself kid! My parents moved in with my grandpa when grandma died, I was 2.
I used to follow grandpa around asking too many questions. My dad said he knew when he'd had enough of me when he heard him say "Baaahhhb!"
I say stuff to Terry like "I wonder whats going in at that spot where they tore down the gas station? " She'll try to come up with a real answer! I just throw stuff out there all the time but I find most people try to come up with something! That's just me thinking out loud!

As an old fool I spend too much time trying to figure out why too many people voted the worst person into power. [ To the mods... no names or places mentioned here. It could apply to anywhere]. The longer I live the more I realize what I will never know about why some people do certain mysterious things.

When the unarmed person manages to kill one of multiple bad guys, then runs away, but leaves behind the bad guy's loaded gun. I always think, "If I were in that situation ... ."

That's WHY I don't watch movies! I can't stop yelling FAKE! Can't suspend disbelief. I have excellent hearing & have always worn hearing protection & have yearly hearing tests) I worked & lived around lots of older guys that were deaf as a posts. I just heard that a lot of people watch T.V. these days with subtitles on.
I'm that guy,,, what'd he say? Who's that?! They said thin televisions have crappy speakers. We have ours hooked up to a Sonos system. Still sucks. It's something about blending takes muddies the sound.

Until the brakes fail on the downhill road.
You're a banjo picker! I though ALL banjo pickers were familiar with the old story about how some flattened scrubs barely survived a Floggy Mountain Downbrake.
