Forever ago, this very tune, played by Wade Ward, got me hooked on wanting, some day, to play the banjo. Seems to me that there's very few young people interested in the banjo these days. I just came across this young lady playing the tune that, long ago, did me in: Chilly Winds. Yup, some young folks still do like the old stuff. Kinda reassuring to me...
Anyhoo, there plenty of takes of this tunes by Wade Ward himself on the tube but this one, this young lady really does deserve your special attention and appreciation. Oh, do notice: no scoop and, by the sounds of it, no stuffing with a tone that sounds, well, like a real banjo:

P.S. playing this, this way, makes a great backup for Lonesome Road Blues.

I agree with you Bart she is amazing!There is a young man at the school I work at that is a natural at banjo so I gifted him one of my banjo’s in hopes that he will carry on the music..it’s the only way that this music will carry on.

Nora is great, been following her for a few years. Missed seeing her live in Brooklyn when I visited my son's family.
She said “this guy” Mac Traynham from Floyd taught her that tune. LOL.
Mac does a huge service for the Floyd area. Check out Margo Macsweeney also. She is one of Mac’s current students and is carrying the torch also.
