one summer back in the 90’s I met Dennis at the open air festival in Germany , he was there touring with Bluegrass Etc. band … band was awesome , and Dennis was kicking butt on his Stelling … that was my first experience seeing and hearing Stelling banjo in person … and needless to say , I fell in love with Stelling immediately … that is how my love affair with Stelling started … through the years I kept in touch with Dennis , we’d exchanged some emails maybe once a year , and it was always great to hear from him … Dennis is no longer with us , but his music will live forever … here is a little video if you’re interested… RIP Dennis …

What a wonderful player he was,,, gone too soon. Saw him at an Arizona festival about 5 years ago, chatted for a minute,, nice man with a sense of humor.

Thank for posting this. This is excellent. I got to meet and hang out with Dennis a little at two of Steve Kaufman's Kamps where he was instructor. Dennis had some most excellent music theory workshops, I think the only other person I've seen that enthusiastic about explaining theory to banjo pickers was Bill Keith, they both loved sharing and spreading theory to mostly clueless banjo pickers.
Dennis was a world-class musician, he could tear up a fiddle too. I loved this guy for who he was and what he did for banjo, and he was a genuinely nice guy, very approachable and real.
Thanks for putting this together and posting. What a wonderful tribute you've made.

Frank, it was put together by Wally Barnick, I just posted the link to his video ... I didn't realize Dennis passed away until I found this video , and I was shocked ... Dennis was in Europe with John , and Larry Parks on bass when I met him ...I still keep in touch with Larry , he learned about Dennis passing from me , he was shocked just as much as I was ... Dennis was a fantastic musician , and a great guy , his passing was a huge shock for everyone who knew him ... at 58 it was really way too soon ...

Okay thanks for the clarification. Since this thread appeared and I posted to it, YouTube has been throwing plenty of Dennis Caplinger videos at me. Here is one it just threw my way a few minutes ago, a previously unreleased studio recording from 1998. This was released on YouTube after his death in tribute to him.

There are also some nice videos of him performing at Steve Kaufmann's Kamps worth checking out on YouTube.
He was such a tasteful player. World class.
