The annual Cabin Fever Picking Party ,scheduled for the first weekend of March 2023 has been cancelled . Cathy Banton, wife of the late Earl Banton , organizer of the event said due to a family situation she would be unable to hold the event this year.
But all is not lost! The Holiday Inn off Newtown Road in Va. Beach, where the event has been held for the last few years, said that they will keep the venue open as a jam weekend event and will allow people to come and go and pick 24/7 as is usual for Cabin Fever. And no ticket will be required. The stage show is a major part of the event and obviously will not take place as usual but it has been rumored that some bands will offer their services (whether they were scheduled or not, that i do not know) to perform. The hotel wants to keep as many as posdible from cancelling their reservations, hence the willingness to keep it the venue open for a jam weekend.
PLEASE NOTE:
Cathy Banton has issued a statement claiming no connection to to the open jam that will still be held in lieu of Cabin Fever and therefore is not responsible for any incidents for good or ill that may happen during the event. She hopes that the good reputation and behavior of the patrons that has been a trademark of Cabin Fever will rub off on whoever may attend this non Cabin Fever event.
I am not a spokesman for Cathy Banton or Cabin Fever , but what i have related is what i have read and been told through the local bluegrass grapevine.
I will definitely be going and ive heard that there have not been many cancellations at all from the hotel.
