Please remove the obnoxious pop up that attaches itself to the page. If you want members to join the Players Union, that is fine, but please stop shoving it in our faces as members scroll through the BHO. It actually interferes w/ using the forums.
Hide these ads: join the Players Union!

Try using some sort of ad blocker. I don't have any ads popping up on my computer.

Same here. No ads.

Ublock Origin blocks all popups for me but also has a zapper and eye dropper selection tool that gets rid of anything you click on. You can erase the whole web page if your not careful! lol

My system ad & pop up blockers are on. After 14 years as a member, I wonder what changed yesterday to make this AD appear.

Maybe a glitch in the system, either yours or the Hangouts? Are you still seeing the ad today? I am still not seeing any pop up ads.
Edited to add: I am a member of the Players Union so maybe that's why I'm not seeing any ads, but others, who aren't members also don't see the ads. Maybe you'll figure out what's going on.

I am still getting one line across the page near the bottom w/ the sentence, "Hide these ads......".
I've tried every blocking method my system has to offer.

I got my membership since it's one of my most cheap subscriptions, but previously used to use Adblocker ultimate within firefox.
Had zero issues with it.

For those using uBlock Origin and still seeing the text, add the following entries in My Filters...
Multiple displays on the page -

Display near the bottom of the page -

I'm VERY frustrated with seeing this obnoxious strip "Hide these ads: join the Player's Union!" This frustration is quickly leading towards anger. PLEASE remove the strip so we can, once again, enjoy this site. Thank you.

Use oldnavyguys suggestion. You can also use the ublock origin eyedropper tool.
1 Click on eyedropper
2. Click on ad words "join players union.."
3. Accept
4. Click on eyedropper
5 Click on ad strip that goes across screen
6. Accept
It is not a popup ad, its a banner ad. I saw it too. Used tool...poof!

This has came up a few times. People complain, and then it disappears. Then it comes back later.
Gotta pay the bills somehow.
Keep in mind that using an adblocker is basically like sneaking in through the backdoor of a concert to avoid paying the cover charge.

Actually...it's not.
The concert has an upfront charge to attend.
Unless a website has a paywall, there is no implied charge to use it.
What's being discussed here is a banner ad, which doesn't generate income based on clicks or views.
It's an attempt to get users to sign up for a Players Union membership...which is voluntary.
It's not so much that the banner ad in itself needs to be blocked, it was how it was being displayed.
I personally have no problem with first-party ads, but I do block third-party ads.

Wrong. The price of admission for an ad-supported website is viewing advertisements. The "Hide these Ads" header is just a PSA that is attached to the advertisements, informing users that they can pay a fee rather than viewing ads. The ads themselves absolutely generate revenue based on clicks/views. Eric is giving us a choice, view ads to support the website or pay a small fee to support the website.
It's the equivalent of a "two drink minimum". You can either buy at least two drinks at the bar (i.e. view the ad), or you can pay the cover charge (i.e. join the Players Union). If you block the ads and don't join the Union, you're basically sneaking in the back door.
