My first thought was 'no way am I going to click on a link in a members very first post'. But I checked it out on a safe computer and it is ok to click on. Terrible photos. I don't know what to make of the piercing in the stretcher band and tailpiece. Looks like somebody has gone to work on it with a drill.

This one did arrive with Columbus. I saw it on T.V. in restore newsreel footage. It was in the background,being picked by one of his men, while another sang a bawdy song about Queen Isabella.
This banjo also clearly had the common disease, in that era, smallpox (evidenced by all the pockmarks) and may have been partly responsible for the deaths of many indigenous people.

Visible for a very brief moment, in the scene with all the drinking cups, including the Holy Grail.
Legend has it that it is the banjo played by Jesus at the Last Picnic, a week or two before the Last Supper.
