I just received and devoured Max Wareham's new book about Blue Grass Boy Rudy Lyle. I don't even read tab, and it's great! (There's tabs of every recorded break by Lyle.)

The detailed interviews with a number of banjo pickers plus Lyle's brother are excellent. Many many fascinating details about Rudy's life, observations on Monroe, Jimmy Martin, Scruggs, Reno and many more. Gritty Nashville life details. Franklin County VA country life. WPAQ Mt Airy 1940s radio bands. Later country music. Korean Conflict.

Extensive banjo-knowledgeable comments about Rudy's licks, timing, and the famous "where is it now?" RB 3 Wreath banjo.

the biggest surprise to me was the size of the book! It's larger than Earl's instruction book. 8x12". Some very nice photos included.

Now I'm not going to learn tab just cause I have this great book. But I am gonna dig out the Monroe Bear boxed set and listen to Rudy's picking again, guided by comments in the text!

Highly recommended. I purchased it from Max Wareham's web page and service was fast.
