If you'll forgive a wee bit of thread drift... I view it as a shame that so many people are ignorant of Bobby McFerrin's work beyond "Don't Worry, Be Happy." I've little doubt that the money he made from that song more or less set him up for life, and I've never found it as annoying as many people do (among other things, I appreciate the wit in the lyrics, and the production: every note in that arrangement is his own voice).

But McFerrin is a talent far beyond that song. In fact, that song is an absolute outlier in his body of work; there's nothing else that pop or light in anything else he's done.

McFerrin is a singer of astonishing range. Perhaps more importantly, he's an outstanding composer for music for the human voice. He's also an incredibly gifted and genial bandleader who lets the lights shine on his musical compatriots - and audience - more than on himself.

He's always changing things up - no tour is ever conceived or delivered in the same way, or with the same people - but he's absolutely worth seeing. Two of the best concerts I ever attended were his, and I do hope for a chance to hear him live again. Strongly recommended.

OK, I'll see if there's anything else by him on Youtube, and give it a listen.
In the larger world, many talented people are either known for ONE thing, or are not widely known at all.
For example:
Ask anybody NOT familiar with Bluegrass music to name THREE Flatt & Scruggs songs.

Here's an example. It may not be to everyone's taste - but it's pretty remarkable in that this was totally done on the fly - completely improvised, in front of an audience.

And here's McFerrin working with Yo Yo Ma and a coupla guys most bluegrassers would recognize!

Skip, thanks for sharing those vids. I would have loved to see him in a small room environment and would be amazed I am sure of his talents, and fascinated. That said, I doubt I would go to Spotify and pick a long playlist of only his stuff. I agree, he deserves to known more for one hit. Such a talent, for sure. Brad
