Just picked this up and plan to refurbish and get it into playing shape as a nylon string frailer. Any idea as to manufacturer and age? 20 brackets; spun over rim in nice shape. Will need to replace veneer where 'star' inlay is. I'm assuming I'll probably need flat hooks. One odd thing: there is no horizontal hole in the dowel stick for bracing hardware but there is a hole in the BOTTOM of the dowel about 3/4" in from the rim - maybe just an angle bracket of some kind? Appreciate the help!

Rettberg & Lange.

Thanks, Clifton! Been watching your vids a lot lately - good stuff. Any idea as to approximate age?

Rettburg and Lange. the hole in the dowelstick you mention IS for neck attachment hardware, Check photos of SSStewart banjo to see what that "brace" looks like. It's basically a triangular piece of metal, and the neck is pulled tight to the pot with wooden wedges that fit between the brace and the rim.

Best guess of age: 1900-1920.

The neck brace would look something like the one on this Stewart banjo.

Thanks! Any idea where I could find a drawing or something? I'm sure an original would be out of my budget so I'll have to try and make one.

I'm not sure about a drawing. You might still be able to find an old one. Here are a couple of places to start.
