Hey everyone,
I recently won an auction for this very cool looking old banjo. Finally beat ya on one imbanjojim ;)
I haven't received it yet so these are all the photos I have. It looks oddly familiar to me. I feel I've seen an old banjo with the same birds eye maple fretboard and pot. Any ideas who the maker may have been? Also I'm kind of assuming the frets are not original? I may be wrong on that one but it seems old enough that frets may not have been super common yet. My plan unless someone convinces me otherwise is to remove the frets and instal wood veneer flush frets. Also there are two holes that look a little suspect. one on either side of the heel. Evidence of a poor repair or strange dowel attachment technique maybe?

Thanks for any tips! I'll post better photos once I have the instrument

Yes, it was a cool looking banjo. Congrats on getting it! I was the last to bid on it before you won it! Guess I should have gone a bit higher! Jim has out bid me a number of times as well. (LOL) I loved the birds eye maple! I have no idea of who the maker might be, but I'll be following to see if someone here has an idea!

You guys should all get together and pay me to not bid...why have I never thought of that before?

Ha! Ingenious! How about I just buy your newest book! I just reread the first and now I'm going to get the other to see if I can gather any more banjo collecting tips!

If that wasn't 100% home made, it sure has had a whole lot of homebrew mods and repairs in its time.
