A Weekend of Workshops in Fairfax, VA

June 18 - 19, 2022

Clawhammer Banjo June 18

Old Time Fiddle and Other lead instruments June 19

Saturday June 18:

10 am - noon - Clawhammer Banjo Technique - For beginners and beyond, who are interested in playing better. We’ll review the basics as I play them – hand and instrument positions, tone, intonation and rhythm. Double- and Drop-thumb techniques will be covered, as most of us find them to be very important to the Old Time sound.

Tunes, per se, will not be the goal in this workshop; rather the improvement of your clawhammer skills and the ability to learn tunes by ear. Some written music may be used for illustration purposes.

2 - 4 pm - Clawhammer Banjo Tune Development -

Sunday June 19:

10 am - noon - Old Time Fiddle  Technique -

2 - 4 pm - Fiddle tune development and repertoire - This workshop is all about the tunes:  more tunes, better tunes, better playing of your tunes, and playing nicely together.  We could learn one new tune or several. This one is open to all string band instruments as well.

Take one session or all 4!

$50 for each session

$85 for each full day

$160 for both days (all four sessions)

Saturday evening will include a jam for attendees and invited guests.

Please contact me at for the event contact, more details and to register.

Play Nice,

Dan Clawdan Levenson
