Hello all,

New here, but not new to making music. Come from a long line of musicians. After giving up on the guitar at an early age, I finally settled on the Dobro. Long story short, my Dad died last month and I've inherited his and my grandfather's banjos. Dad's banjo is an Asian made Mastertone copy sold by Don's Music City in Burlington, NC.

Grandpa's on the other hand, has no markings at all. Dad told me it was a Vega, but in my research, all the Vegas I've seen have had engraved markings.

I've settled upon it being either a Gretsch made student model or a Slingerland. Opinions? Agree, disagree?

Would love to know what it is.

Yeah, after a little more research, I'm putting my money on Gretsch, 1920s era.

Let me know if I'm hot or cold.

I am inclined to agree with it being a Gretsch. Maybe John Hoft or George Motisher will see this and weigh in. They are both pretty knowledgeable about Gretsch banjos.

It is definitely a Gretsch. The peghead shape and the volute shape are/were proprietary Gretsch designs.
