Cause of death not determined; some speculation of drug use, as he had a history.
This one hits me hard. As far as I'm concerned, Foo Fighters are the Last Great Rock and Roll Band. Ferocious music that always managed to be tuneful and exciting.

Per local reporting, white powder "similar to cocaine" found in the hotel room. Don't do drugs, kids. Especially at 50 years old. Burning the candle at both ends and got burned.

It wouldn't surprise me. Hawkins nearly died from a heroin overdose early in his tenure with the band. He had reportedly been sober for many years. That said, people relapse - and cocaine-related cardiac problems are well-established.
Even so, this greatly saddens me. I have enormous respect for the band and its founder - who was the drummer in Nirvana, and thus had a pretty damned high standard for whoever was going to drum in the band he fronted. Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins were tighter than ticks on a dog, and I consider that band to be my favorite currently-working band that doesn't play bluegrass.
Your point is very well taken. It's still a dark day in music.

Taylor finally succumbed to the guilt of making it into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame loooong before many of his influences and idols will.
Regardless...R.I.P.
