Now scientists have discovered that the Earth's core is cooling at a much more rapid rate than initially thought. This means that the Earth becomes like Mars, basically a dead planet. The cooling of the core will solidify the planet and we lose our magnetic shield which protects us from harmful radiation from the sun. Without the magnetic shield the oceans boil away, everything gets cancer, and the surface of the planet becomes sterile due to high UV radiation.

No need to worry there are those whom I will not name that want to darken the sun by loading up the atmosphere with who know what to cool the planet. You would think these two ways of thinking, being science and all, would be on the same page. If the core cools seem logical that the whole planet will cool as well.

Only 1.75 to 3.25 billion years left. I've put it in my calendar in case I forget.

The good thing is that the Earth will cool before the Sun becomes a red giant and swallows it.

The good news is that you can't trust a lot of scientists.

Name me the ones I can trust. Are we becoming anti-science or anti-scientists?  I’m curious

The sun will gradually get warmer and scorch the Earth before the core cools off. We are now in a inter glacial period and the Earth should be slowly moving into another ice age but as we all know, the opposite is happening.. While science is a difficult and often inexact way to understand our world , it is the best way we know so far. It is often the scientist wrong ideas that are eventually corrected and that leads to progress.

There's a lot of "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" going around right now about many different things. Frankly, I figure the earth will last longer than any of us or or or kids, grandkids and so on.

It's not something I would lose any sleep over.

Lol... anti-science. That's one of the craziest trendy things for  people to say, now.

It's like saying anti-geography or anti-mathmatics.

Imagine if a police officer did something questionable and when you spoke out, someone stands up and starts yelling that you don't believe in laws. I was a police officer and there are dishonest people in police work. I'll bet you'd agree.

There have been unscrupulous scientists and doctors for many years. It's just seems more widespread, in my opinion, at the moment.

You ever hear of the Tuskegee experiment? I'm not a fan of that one. Does that make me anti-science?

I agree with the chicken little theory! I clicked on an "article" about a metoride that is headed for earth.

Now everyday I get another one that's going to take us out! The one today showed the giant rock headed our way!

It even showed the big chunk it would take out of the earth! The rest of the article went on to say it would miss us by a million miles!

They keep going on about how glowball warming is going to drown us all. Living on an island on a subduction zone that hasn't had a "Big One" since January 1700 is more of a worry. I heard an expert say we are being pushed upward as fast as the sea is rising!

Don't worry. Since you all were created, and your memories implanted, on the day I came into existence, when I die, you will all disappear. The temperature of the Earth's core, the sun swallowing the earth, and catastrophic meteorites should be the least of your worries. Find a way to keep me going and you all shall live.

Since there are mounds of evidence showing that sea levels are rising, I would like to see the evidence this expert has that shows we are being pushed up, and what exactly is pushing us.  When I hear the phrase "an expert" with no name attached it raises my skeptic barometer.

How long before they rise up to where they used to be?

there are sea shell fossils where i live, and at much higher elevations, the ocean used to be higher, now it's lower, will get higher again, and i do agree that it's much warmer now than it was during the ice age,  people use scientific facts to scare people into believing the worst, it isn't going to change from that

Pushing up does happen but so does sinking. There isn't just one or the other so clearly it's not a claim that has any substance. The British Isles are tilting. In the south it's sinking and in the north it's rising by a few milimetres a year. The earth crust is not rigid.

It would be like an expert spending all day hanging out saying that the sun is getting further away and not heating our area like it used to. The masses could stand up and show the proof that he was correct when the sun went down and temperatures dropped. However, they probably wouldn't have much to say when morning came.

Scientists and doctors have the best opportunity to harm science. In this particular article, the drastic headline was unmerited. This is all too common, unfortunately.

The article was more about a big headline, speculation, suspicions and possibilities.

At the very end, they briefly mentioned that scientists might need to factor in the decay of radioactive material. I would liken this to looking at the insulation of your home in the winter and trying to determine how long it will stay at its current temperature. That's great,  right? Well you'll probably need to factor in the heat pump that continuously produces heat.

Bad scientist are to science what bad politicians are to government or maybe worse because half of our population think that a scientist should never be questioned.

Recently, some scientists have completely abandoned time proven scientific research and testing methods. Was it merited? Maybe or maybe not, but they must be honest and forthright. That's where we have real problems.

To make things more complicated, you have half of our population on standby ready to scream things like, "You don't believe in science, do you!".

I'm well aware of plate tectonics, and uplift along plate lines.  With the exception of volcanic ranges, virtually all the mountain ranges in the world were caused by the collision of plates with one plate going under the other forcing one of them upward.  It is still happening in the Himalayans, as the Indian continent slips under the Asian continent.  None of this, however, is evidence that oceans are not rising due to climate change, nor that they are receding due to global cooling.  The claim made was "They keep going on about how glowball warming is going to drown us all. Living on an island on a subduction zone that hasn't had a "Big One" since January 1700 is more of a worry. I heard an expert say we are being pushed upward as fast as the sea is rising!I want to know what expert is saying that both sea rise due to warming is equal to uplift due to plate collisions and that this is evidence that the oceans are not rising, or that it is evidence that climate change isn't happening.

Note: I'm not debating climate change, I'm looking for the scientist or expert who is making the above stated claims.  I wish to read his/her research on this topic.

The oceans have always risen and fallen due to the freeze thaw cycles of the planet.  During the last ice age sea level was much lower than it is today.  But sea fossils at high altitudes need not be evidence that sea level was higher, it could be that the land there was lower and was pushed up due to collisions of tectonic plates.  There are sea shells all over the place in Sedona Arizona, and shell fossils have been found very high up on Mount Katahdin in Maine.  In both of these cases it is because the land was below sea level and was pushed up, not that the ocean receded.  But again I add, land pushing up is not a response to ocean rising.  Plate tectonics are not related to changes in climate.  (Thought they could be related to the core temperature of the Earth, and so will slow down as the core cools.)

That'll make a great skateboard park.  Yes, uplift happens due to collisions of tectonic plates.  But it does not match the rise in sea levels - the two have nothing to do with each other.  Changes in the Earth's crust are independent of changes in climate, or sea level rise.  The British Isles are not being flipped over because the ocean is rising more on one side than the other.

The uplift of the north of the British Isles is not tectonic plates. Anyway my reply was to illustrate in one way that "clearly it's not a claim that has any substance".

Can you tell me what it is?

Edit: Never mind.  I found it.  I forgot that another cause of uplift is the mantle expanding because the weight of the glacier has been removed from the land mass.  This is happening to several places in North America also.  Still, it is not related to sea level rise, nor to climate change - except that the changed climate melted the ice and too the pressure off the land masses.

DC5 Not you! Us on the Island!

Is Vancouver Island rising or sinking?

Land along the southwest coast of Vancouver Island is rising at about 25 centimetres per century, while vertical land motion of Prince Rupert is negligable, thus explaining the approximately 25 centimetres difference in sea-level change between Tofino and Prince Rupert.
