A Slingerland tenor banjo that someone has made a crude neck and tailpiece for.

I doubt this banjo has ever had anything to do with Bill Nelson of Vega or Remo, but it was a nice added detail by whoever made the neck to add mystery to the banjo. Or, perhaps the previous owner was taking notes... "you should write Bill Nelson at Vega and get a real banjo, at least get a plastic head for that one." "Yeah, let me write that down before I forget."

I've not seen a Slingerland w/ a 12" pot. (perhaps the measurement was done incorrectly & included the tension hoop ?? Perhaps it's some other brand ).  The neck & attachment method  do seem homemade.

Let me just say I’m in no way interest in this banjo object. Was just curious what the heck it was. I’m trying to learn more and was pretty sure the neck looked homemade.

My mother's guitar banjo is a Slingerland with a 12" pot.

12" Slingerland guitar banjo, ...that would be a nice instrument to play.
