Someone posted on this forum awhile back asking about his grandfather's (Dave Kennedy) banjos. Dave had cast some tone rings made of bell bronze which didn't use a wooden rim. I made a neck for one of them which he gave to Julius Bellson of Gibson. The mother-of-pearl and abalone inlay was of my own design except for the Kennedy name which he designed himself. This was forty some odd years ago.
Funny for me to see the Shellex name on the truss rod cover. In the 1970's and 1980's we purchased a significant quantity of shell products for the Goose Acres banjos we were building. I had not thought about that company for a while, as Duke of Pearl is where I buy most of my inlay materials now. A quick internet search and I see that they are still in business with a website; shellex.com
