I'm fixing up an old Farland Tin Top for a friend, as was wondering if these were designed for steel strings..? or gut strings..? I'm sure the gut strings will have a hard time driving a tin top..?

They were designed for gut strings and gut strings only. With a period bridge and action height the strings have no problem driving the Farland heads.

Gut, silk, or viscous.

Farland was VERY clear about strings. In fact, an exact quote is "The z-z-z given by the final vibrations of wire strings is so offensive that I could not bear to use them."

OK, Perfect, Thanks!
