Hi all, kind of new to playing banjo and making my way through learning some songs. I'm sitting here watching the show about Gordon Lightfoot on Prime. The song Sundown really hit me as something cool that would sound great on the banjo. I've found a few people playing it on YouTube, but not enough good information to figure out how to do it myself. Can't find a tab for it anywhere. Anyone have a tab for Sundown?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Kevin

Fun fact: Gordon wrote that song inspired by his 'annoying' golden retriever named Sundown. He lived on my block for years back in the day.

The song is not about a dog. It is about a woman named Susan Smith whom he had a three year affair with. (The same Susan Smith who injected John Belushi with a fatal dose of heroin).

It is covered in the documentary on Lightfoot “If you could read my mind.”

Thank you dearly for this!

Nearly two decades ago Lightfoot told me the story (or joke?) about this song and his dog. He has a dry sense of humor and frankly it had been bugging me for a very long time that his explanation of the song made little sense to me.  I now see he was probably making a joke about this woman and it flew way over my head.

Not a problem. I looked it up because it being about a dog didn’t make a whole lot of sense. What a great artist though!!

Thank you, happy picking
