I've had a few nudges about suggesting a tune but, to be honest, have been a bit stuck. I was thinking about how it's been a year since the pandemic hit our shores (here in the UK we had our first lockdown in March 2020 and are currently in Lockdown 3) and thinking about the people we have lost during this time. The great Eddy Davis was a prolific poster here and he was such a generous guy - both in sharing his musical knowledge but also encouraging newbies such as myself - and we really miss him here on the Hangout.

Can I suggest that we make March and April an Eddy Davis tribute. The anniversary of his passing is April 7th so please flood this page with songs and tunes that Eddy inspired you to learn. I'm pretty sure a lot of people have taken up the banjo due to Eddy.

Great idea Carrie
And two month won't be too much for me to try to work on something.

I discover this forum and Eddie Davis videos the week he passed. I feel myself quite as a newbie.

Brilliant idea!

Hi Carry, I start proposing again that song composed by Eddy. Unluckily I can't sing it, but the original Eddy's version (with vocal) is available on YouTube.

CGDA
Hey Marco,
Do you have a lead sheet?

CGDA - Posted - 03/04/2021:  01:51:39

Mike, I've found melody and chords by ear (I can't read music), that's easy if you give a glance to Eddy's video.

Great song Marco and nice rendition, I'm sure Eddie is proud of you!

I will remember Eddie with this video I made some years ago

Great to hear your videos inspired by Eddy.

I thought I would share a link to David Cava with his homage to Eddy on tenor guitar (I checked with him and he was okay with me posting):youtube.com/watch?v=jDC4x5tRraw

I have a lead sheet for this song --- someone asked for it. I think I got this from Eddy somehow (he may have actually posted it elsewhere on the forum a long time ago.) Enjoy! Bob

I dedicated this tune to Eddy, about seven years ago. He appreciated it and made me so happy!

Well, here is my March offering.  When I first started learning tenor I got stuck trying to figure out the B part to Lazybones so asked for help here.  Eddy Davis quickly responded with a video tutorial - in the video tutorial he makes some interesting chord choices E.g F to a Bb7 rather than to Bb.  What a generous guy he was.

Hi everyone,

here is a version of "I don't want to set the world on fire" I worked on for this thread. Based on a transcription I made from Eddy's version.
Here is Eddy's video : youtu.be/hIrGQrbELf0

Here is mine, hope you will like it ^-^ :

My tribute to Eddy is a song which he performed back in Dec. 2016, "Lullabye of the Leaves"

youtube.com/watch?v=MHOtpgQTUJg

Eddie has a beautiful contrary-motion arrangement on his tenor which alas I can't manage on my plectrum...

I've done the best I could, so I guess it'll just have to do... here's to you, Eddy!

Will
