Hi All, I have been using a DR-05 to record jams with a banjo and fiddle. The fiddle comes in loud and clear while my buddy starts the tunes, but as soon as my banjo comes in the fiddle fades fairly drastically. It leaves our recordings with way too much banjo and not enough fiddle. Add a guitar in there and you mostly just get a banjo guitar duet.. I have placed the recorder much closer to him while turning my banjo a bit to the side and attempting to play quieter but to no real success. I am starting to think that I may not have a setting correct but can't find anything online dealing with that aspect of the setup. It seems like the recorder may be trying to quiet the sounds it deems background noise.. Im hoping someone out there may be able to clue me in. Thanks for any thoughts!
Sounds like you may have the level control set on Auto Level. I've only used mine to record single instruments but I usually have this either turned off, or maybe set on Peak Reduction to avoid distortion from sudden loud sounds. You'll probably still need to play around with the position to get the best balance. I tried posting a link to the manual but it's being blocked. You can find the manual online if you google it.
Thank you Mark. Your advice led me to realize i had somehow set it up for 'one button recording' which doesn't allow for changes in how it records. So now i have reset the recorder to factory standard and will try using it with the adjustments you mentioned. Thanks again!
