Here is a quick video of Somewhere over the Rainbow in the key of C.  The rainbow has become a symbol of hope in these times and here in the UK people the rainbow is a symbol of thanks for our National Health Service (NHS) staff and carers.

Thank you Bill.

Hey Paolo - I love your version - some lovely chord choices. Thanks for posting - and Happy New Year!

Had to jump in before this thread falls into the past too quickly....
As the calendar transitions, here's some personal thanks to those here who inspire me:
* Rob MacKillop, Brad Roth, Omeboy , Doub, Don Lewers, CGDA, @[banjopaolo], banjopa , mastomo, Dave Cavage and so many others my dim mind is neglecting who demonstrate the diversity, expressiveness & expertise the instrument is capable of,
* hobogal ,aintbrokejustbadlybent , Ryk, sethb + all the usual (and unusual) suspects here who make this a great and supportive place.

You're all "essential" to having kept some bit of personal sanity during an insane situation. Losing Eddy - one of my greatest mentors - was a blow you helped me deal with. Thank you ALL for keeping the "rainbow" in my mind's eye!!!

hobogal - Posted - 01/02/2021:  11:22:50

Bob, that was simply beautiful. I like your chord choices and the interesting flourishes you add to the tune. Eddy would have loved that. Thank you for posting - and a Happy New Year - let's hope the rainbow appears soon!

Ryk - Posted - 01/02/2021:  11:41:12

Beautiful Bob ... Thank You,
"You're all "essential" to having kept some bit of personal sanity during an insane situation. " Yeah ... what he said. Since we've been hit with this covid crisis and we're unable to gather to play with others i decided to concentrate on just the tenor banjo. But i missed the guitar ... et voila .. there you were on You Tube "All by Yourself" with that lovely old Epiphone Triumph. As luck would have it ... there was one for sale and it now lives and breaths here in Vermont.
This community of players ... here at the hangout and sprinkled throughout the internet has been wonderfully generous with their knowledge and their skills. Thank you all. And .. Happy New Year.

banjopaolo - Posted - 01/02/2021:  13:04:51

SunnylandBob these covid times are really hard... and beeing here means really a lot for me!
Thank you all for your music and for your words...
Bob your rendition is great, real beauty on four strings!

Rob MacKillop - Posted - 01/03/2021:  00:27:48

SunnylandBob - and banjopaolo - such great posts, playing and arrangements. Paolo has always been a hero of mine re the tenor banjo, with a great knowledge of jazz chords, and now Bob, whose playing is wonderful to behold, love those inner lines in your Rainbow rendition, Bob! And hobogal , dear Carrie, for just doing what you do, it is truly inspirational, and just look at the responses your post has triggered!

Happy New Year, everyone.

hobogal - Posted - 01/03/2021:  00:49:45

Rob MacKillop Ryk banjopaolo SunnylandBob I agree Rob - such great posts. It is nice to see this forum looking lively again. Also thank you, Rob for inspiring me to take up the tenor banjo after watching/hearing you play AJ Weidt tunes on youtube. I stumbled my way through My Lady Jazz 3 years ago and here I am still playing.
Wishing everyone a Happy (and healthy) New Year.

Beautiful and well played Bob. Inspiring. A few sounds I’d like to “steal” although not sure if my fingers are long enough.

Marcooooo Great playing, so bluesy! I never saw you playing your Vegavox.. It has a beautiful sound... I remeber I loved it when I played it in your house so many (too many) years ago!

Rob MacKillop - Posted - 01/06/2021:  14:55:11

Beautiful, Marco. The banjo sounds beautiful.

"And now for something completely different..."

Here is Tommy Emmanuel's  version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow .  He opens it with chimed chords and does a chimed chorus about 3:20 on the time code and again at the end.  It always completely knocks me out---makes me want to runout and buy a guitar ------again.

Here is my version of Over the Rainbow, I recorded this last April as a song of hope for better days to come while we are all dealing with Covid 19 and trying to stay safe. This song is special and emotional for me. Please stay safe until this virus is under control and we can all get back to playing together again.

Rob MacKillop - Posted - 01/09/2021:  07:25:26

Well, it is still a song of hope, Steve, in fact it always was and always will be. Your rendition is beautiful. Keep well, Steve!

Well, I finally figured out how to do a bit of recording. I've enjoyed all the summited version and am amazed at the varied interpretations. Thanks hobogal for suggesting this tune and stoking the fire. I hope you'll continue to make TOTM suggestions.

As I just said on YT: One of the best, most sensitive versions I've heard, Mike. Beautiful!
