So I bought a banjo from a pawn shop a few years back. Marked as Bruno and the drum head had a clown drawn on it. Anyway while I was on a trip, someone knocked over my banjo and the head got a small cut in the side. Not bad to the point its unusable, but I quite like the art so I decided to take it off. Measured the banjo and bought the wrong size head at first. When I took to measuring it a second (more accurate time) it was about 10 1/2 or 10 5/8. I looked online and they're waaay more expensive than other drum heads; more than I wish to spend. Do yall know of a cheap(ish) site for this size? Or if I could buy a larger head and alter it to work with it?
If I’m reading things correctly (and not doing so is always a possibility), Bob Smakula has several options in those sizes, for $22. Frosted heads in 10.5" (I think) are $19. I just purchased an 11” head from him at $21., plus a small shipping fee. It arrived in two days, with a nice pen. Perhaps worth checking out.
Please visit the banjo head page of my website. It has the list of all heads I have in stock, tonal descriptions of the different films, and instructions on how to measure so you can order the correct head for your instrument.
Your 1/8" size range in measuring is excessive. Banjo head sizes come in 1/16" increments, so you have to be right on.
