Hi All:

Since playing banjo, I've mainly been hooked on Scruggs and Crowe but I now feel the urge to explore other players as well. I hear Vestal's name all the time but I haven't heard many of his recordings. Any recommended, must-have, Scott Vestal albums/songs? Quicksilver or solo...doesn't matter to me...

This my all time favorite bluegrass Scott Vestal stuff from Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver's CD:

Once and For Always/The New is Out

I think Once and For Always is Terry Baucom, but The News is Out is Scott Vestal

His Bluegrass series is amazing. One album per year Bluegrass 97, Bluegrass 1998, Bluegrass 1999, Bluegrass 2000.

I've seen Southern Connection on YouTube - are there any studio recorded CDs out there of them?

X2 on jonfinder's suggestions on the bluegrass series.

IIRC he put out a tab book and his own recordings after he left DLQS, the main tune I remember was his version of Ground Speed which thanks to the internet can be seen here, his second break starts at :49 and well worth checking out.

There is the banjo. It's his own design, the Vestal Stealth. Long peg head probably needs a special case.

No inlay! Takes a special player.
