Greetings fellow members.
I have a goal to help a member from our BHO community to get a banjo in their hands.
I will explain fully the situation and person involved once we can get an idea how many of us are willing to help make this happen.

I have emailed the Banjo Warehouse to try and set up an account to safe guard our investment.
In a rushed previous post which I did not think over very well, got over 500 views but only 2 remarks and some private emails to me. One donation from a member in Spain, thank you to them.
I thought if we only donated $1 this person would be crying with joy right now.

The emails to me expressed we live in a world of scams and that members do not want to scammed or juked. This I understand fully and this is why I am trying to set up an account with the Banjo Warehouse so our money is safeguarded.

My thoughts are to donate a beginner Recordingking banjo because they are built well and sound great.
All will be revelled if we get any interest and numbers of members willing to participate.
I believe we can give a gift that will last a life time and bring joy and direction in their life.

What does your banjo mean to you? I can tell you, passion, hope, joy, excitement, pleasure, proud to own one or many and you think everyone should own at least one.

I put to you this idea of sharing a dollar safeguarded through the Banjo Warehouse, to help put a banjo into the hands of a human that wants to own a banjo but is down on their luck at this moment in life.
How many of us want to share our love of the banjo by being involved in this.

His story will be shared if we get the interest it deserves. There is no pressure to donate a dollar we just need to know if you will think about it.
Please leave remarks if you want to be involed or of any concerns that may or may not help this happen.
All I can say at the moment is the banjo will be headed to Summerville SC USA

The previous thread you started on this topic contained some good questions and feedback -

Keeping things in one thread is easier to follow.

Thank for your post. Yes the feedback was a great idea and that is why I have emailed the Banjo Warehouse to ask if something could be done. I really appreciate your advice and the advice of Glenn. I am praying for the best possible outcome.

You have pretty much identified the person involved since members here can be searched by City, State, and Country.

Here in the U.S. there are specific fund-raising (crowdsourcing) sites, with GoFundMe being one of the most popular.

gofundme.com/

Any donations that went over the goal could be given to the member for paying bills.

Over the past few years, GoFundMe's have been set up for people in the banjo community.

John Hickman and Tom Adams are a couple of examples.

Folks here contributed to those...including myself.

I personally would not donate to someone who would be "handling the money", or wants money deposited in a PayPal account somewhere...unless I knew that person.

GoFundMe adds some credibility and accountability.

Banjo Warehouse would not need to receive any funds until the fundraising goal was met, and would not have the burden of returning funds if it was not met.

Thank you again for your thoughts.

True,  If I am wrong then I am wrong. I have no experience in organizing something like this, my heart called me to try.

If you or anyone else can help guide me, please message me how to go about it.

I just wanted an idea of how many of us were interested before explaining the full history again.

If you want the person to remain anonymous, don't disclose first names, city and state.

If you can't edit your posts, you might ask a mod to remove that information from this thread, and the original thread.

I added some additional information above your last post.

5strings3picks1banjo - Posted - 01/27/2020:  01:48:43

Great input and appreciated. I am not trying to keep the person anonymous because I am sure people would like to know.
You have given me some valuable information.
I will research Go Fund Me and find out what I can do.

Hi guys, now that I’ve found this thread I thought I’d stop by and say thank you to Leon and all y’all.

So backstory time, I’ll try to be brief.

A few months back, I had some weird shoulder pains and decided to get it check out since I was on day 3 of my new career as a utility locator and didn’t want to be sidelined by something silly like a bum shoulder. I drove myself to my side of town 20miles away and was texting my wife about the issues and she told me to go to ER and she’s meet me, I couldn’t figure out why she was so worried but hey, listen to mamma right?

As soon as I hit the door of the ER I was slammed into a chair and was told I was having a heart attack! News to me, seemed rather uneventful as I’d been having the same feeling at least once a day for a month! Turns out the Dr thinks I’ve had over 40... so a quick camera up the arm and it’s surgery time, multiple bypasses, 1 wire, 2 titanium plates and 8 screws to put me all back together. I had some s*** complications after the fact both physically and mentally, but I’m pushing thru it. My Dr recommended I try a hobby to relax since I’m going to be out of work for the foreseeable future, and since I used to be an avid outdoorsman/camper and can’t do that much anymore, music was the next suggestion.

I’ve always loved the banjo, especially so since about 10 years ago I went to the Grayson Highlands Fall Festival in Virginia and they had a bunch of bluegrass music playing, both professionals as well as local yokels. I just turned 37 on the 20th, And I decided to get a used pawn shop banjo for my birthday. I’m on a very tight budget right now with only my wife’s income, so I was selling a few personal effects to raise the money for a birthday dinner and banjo! Ha!

Unfortunately the deal fell thru, but in the process of researching the various local instruments I keep coming up with y’all a forum, everyone seemed nice and gave what looked like good advice so I decided to join and learn more while I figure out how to make this happen.

Leon surprised the heck out of me with this whole thing and I am eternally grateful for it, and no matter the outcome I am incredibly humbled and glad to be here.

I completely understand the concerns y’all expressed, and if anyone would like they can pm/email me and I’d be happy to answer any questions. I’d post pics here but most are pretty graphic and I’d like to stay on the banjo-gods good side!

Thank you all for everything. Even seeing that people like y’all still exist is huge

Thank you. Yea life was pretty ok before this. Talk about being blindsided. But I'm very lucky, to say the least. I'm glad to have found a base of knowledge as nice as y'all no matter what. I've learned a lot already!

Leon, my hat is off to you for trying to kick-start this effort. Once it gets figured out I'd be happy to contribute.

Thank you from my heart to all the folks interested and gave advice.
Our funding has been taken care of and a banjo has been paid for from an anonymous member. He will be known to me as Angel because I prayed over this last night to help put a banjo into Davids' hands and I awoke to the news this morning.
I will work with David on the finer details and then finish this post.
Bless the hearts we have here.
This will be posted in previous post as well.

Thank you again everyone. I am stepping back and giving the floor to David Kitts to allow him to share with you the outcome. I now believe God owns a banjo and wants everyone to own one. Amen

Well y’all, I just got off the phone with BW and a banjo should be on the way today/tomorrow, with some accessories and info to start me off.

I can’t possibly say how grateful I am that you guys would do this for me, and a huge thanks to Leon and the others involved I don’t know about.

I’ll post pics when it arrives!

Again, thank you all
