I am pretty sure that all 800s have gold plated and engraved hardware, but have Any ever been created let’s say in the bow tie era with any staining other than the standard bright yellow and red maple cherry sunburst? Eg. Tobacco sunburst mahogany?
I think there was three choices, or I should say I’ve seen three different finishes. Red/yellow sunburst, Tobacco which is pretty uncommon and I recently saw a all original one in natural, no finish thatbfor some reason had a light green tinit to it.
It had a natural (unstained) finish, lighter than the photos show - no green tint, however! - and the metal parts were not engraved. It came from Gibson's custom shop shortly after Greg Rich arrived. The person who ordered it backed out of the deal and Gibson consigned it to Mandolin Brothers, where I bought it in the summer of 1988. I sold it in 2004 and then happened upon it again at Retrofret a few years ago when I brought in another banjo for repair work.
No, I wasn't tempted to buy it again.
