When I interviewed them for Banjo Newsletter two years ago, he said, "It’s huge even for a bass. Every bass player is like ‘Oh, come on, I can’t play this thing!’”
Back when I could still play, piece of cake. Any violone player can. A full sized violone is a lot larger than a bass fiddle with 6 strings, gut frets, tuned an octave and a half below a lute and played with a bow. The neck is huge—wider and thicker than my 5-string symphony bass. It gets hard from there.
