Many years ago I ran into a guy tearing up the fiddle with his band at a festival practicing next to their bus before the show. Later I learned his name was JB Price or Prince. Not sure anymore. That evening I walked over past the same bus Because I heard someone playing the heck out of a banjo. It was him again. I never forgot the sound of that banjo. Anyone know what type of Gibson Mr. JB Prince (Price?) had? Or maybe it was a nice reproduction, I can’t remember but maybe someone here knows and also knows where it might be.

It's J.B. Prince. As in, sitting in with Bluegrass Cardinals. A fine fiddler. Never saw his banjo.  Here he is onstage at Union Grove, with Beau Elliot, Olen Gardner, John Ogle, and Jack Hinshelwood.

I knew JB pretty well........picked with him on several occasions........I would be surprised if the banjo you heard him play was his own. If you saw him during the time he was working with the Bluegrass Cardinals, he might have been playing Don Parmley's banjo. Don's banjo was a prewar Gibson RB-3 that was originally an archtop. It had a 60s era Fender no-hole flathead tone ring in it.

I didn’t know J B that well, but did get to see him jam with Jimmy Arnold at some of the High Point NC music stores Never had an occasion to see him pick banjo, Jimmy was always on the banjo when I was around them. Jimmy could play anything, and the talented guys that were around him were no doubt the same way.
Take care
