Having just returned from Nepal, and having the opportunity to play my SlimJim travel banjo at Annapurna base camp (4100m), Tharpu Chuli basecamp (4300m) and finally at Kyla Patthar (5600m), may I open the discussion re What is the greatest altitude, on land, that clawhammer banjohas been played???

In a shocking reversal of your request, I am going to claim the lowest altitude at which a clawhammer banjo has ever been played. I live in Houston. We are actually below sea level in some areas.

I have played clawhammer banjo in Death Valley, which bottoms out at 282' below sea level. I'd bet that some of our Israeli players have played on the beach by the Dead Sea, which would surely be a world record.

Dang you Prescott!  I defer to your superior depth-defying clawhammer greatness.  I was just in my yard.

OK Kent, did you play your banjo at the Death Valley parking lot or visitor center or did you actually go to the bottom of the dry lake bed? Come on now, ‘fes up!

And Garrett, did you take two banjos up Mt Shasta? .....or did Sasquatch leave one behind with his beer? Inform Mr Sasquatch he should not litter the mountain, the spirit in the mountain would not be pleased!

Kent, next time make up Mt Whitney and you'll have covered the Hi and Lo of the continental US.

This thread is great. The highs and lows of my playing have been of the personal struggles variety.
