**** IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY while I'm playing you can read my HAT. It was what we recieved when we were doing the Music Tour for Woody Allen's Film "The CURSE of the JADE SCORPION". "The Manhattan Minstrel" Eddy Davis playing and singing a tune written by Bonnie Windsor. When I use to play with Turk Murphy he use to do this tune a lot and we discussed it and Bonnie a bit. He said he learned it from Bonnie and he played it a bit different from my version. I remember he said there was no written music for it, BUT I had and have a piece of sheet music for it. When I played for Turk John Gill who was the Banjo player at the time went to the front line and replaced Bob Helm on Clarinet, who was sick that summer. John sat it up so I went out to Frisco and replaced him on Banjo at the time. Then when Bob came back I stayed around and replaced Scott Anthony as the intermission Banjoist while he took a vacation. It is performed on Davis' Custom OME 12' head - 17 fret neck Tenor Banjo.
I've been very fortunate to have played with MANY of the figures in Jazz History and you must know that I am very respectful of that. Just the luck of the game and a little talent I guess. BUT, their MUSIC and STORIES have given me a great life which I've tried to be respectful of ---- Turk Murphy was one of these! I've always wanted to learn interesting SONGS -- and I believe this is one of those. How much for THE HAT? Eddy "The Manhattan Minstrel"
