I'm done here for good. I started an innocent thread asking if anyone was going to All Frets. I later shared my joy of meeting a great player from Europe and jamming with him and another friend. I should have known better then to mention the type of banjo a friend played. That thread has now turned into the bho version of 3 guys who think they know more then anybody on the planet about a certain line of banjos acting like 3 yr olds on a playground. I have news for you guys. I know a couple people who have forgot more about that product, then the 3 of you combined so get over yourselves. The more you beat the dead horse, the more childish you all look and act. Have a nice life everyone, I'm gone!

Do you promise?

Based on your response to things here and within that thread - I think you are suffering from a chip on your shoulder and a misinformed/biased opinion. Who cares why a topic changed course, and who are you to pass judgment on others because a thread didn't fall out how you wanted; you are hardly an authority on such things? Or were you looking for others to praise you for something? Taking your toys and going home isn't much of an argument for calling others names.

C YA!

Maybe Lance doesn't realize how often B&D's are faked and how heated the discussions around NPU's can become, but I fail to see how the conversation changing course to the authenticity of the banjo in question is a bad thing. I hope for Tyler's sake that he either got a good deal on the instrument or knew about its possible shortcomings.

Leave if you must, but I have left a post on your other thread that should take care of any and all of the flaming, bickering and acting like spoiled brats.

Many threads take on a different life from what they start out to be. On the internet, you need to have a thick skin and not take things to personally, and unfortunately, it looks like you may not have one.

Frankly, you'll find the Hangout is one of the more peaceful forums on the internet.

Hope you decide to come back, as there's lots of good information on here. Just ignore the needlers and you'll be fine.

Lance: after that Allfrets thread I can't really blame you for leaving BHO. That was the most assinine bunch of comments I've ever read on this site, and I still can't believe after being here a number of years, just how idiotic and hyper-critical and disrespectful some of the comments became. (Im not blaming everyone, as some of the people who lft comments were simply trying to slow down the idiots and inject a little common decency into the matter.)

However, I do wish you would reconsider, because 99% of the threads here are not like that one. The four string forum in particular need all the commenters it can get, and there are beginners who could benefit from your input. I would love to hear some of what you and your pals played at Allfrets.

And here on this thread, I urge you to ignore those who have told you to grow a thicker skin or sarcastically asked if you promise to leave. Unfortunately, fools can be found everywhere, even in a place like the Hangout where 99% of the players and builders are intelligent and civil.

There was no sarcasm about my post.

Lance, life throws up some daunting challenges at times, that's f'sure, similar to what's happening right here, right now on the Hang Out ...... Here's my two bobs worth re comments I've received ..... any respectful comments , good or bad, I've always cherished, and welcomed them with open arms ...... any disrepectful comments, I've immediately swept up with my straw broom, and tossed'em onto the nearest compost heap, where they may rest in peace!.

I hope you stay Lance, 'cause your part of the family. .... Don.

This is a public forum. I once got perturbed about the price(s) of certain banjos and posted my feelings about them, and I still have scares and bruises from the replies. Then I thought about it and said to myself, it is a public forum it provides me the opportunity to post my feelings about instruments and the opportunity for others to post their feelings. I still say BHO is the best banjo forum available today!!

Yes, this is a public forum and it is called Playing Advice. Arcane discussions around the provenance of certain banjos would seem more appropriate to collectors corner. I can see where Lance might think some people were completely missing the point. That can be irritating. Unless you have a thick skin of course, then we can just have a forum consisting of thick skinned blowhards.
Okay, I'm done.

I sure hope Collector's Corner doesn't get bogged down in the kind of petty bickering and personal rancor that was contained in the Allfrets thread.

It's fine to debate, but it's not fine to add personal grudges to any of the forums. Thread drift is also fine, but not when it's a drift towards being uncivil.

I, too, can see why Lance could think some people missed the point of his post (to me. it's obvious that some of them did). I hope he reconsiders his decision to leave, but I can't blame him if he simply decides he has better things to do than to listen to "thick skinned blowhards."

Sorry to see you go Lance and hope you stay. I am with George on this one. You posted about a positive experience and then you're thread got completely hi-jacked and the tone of the comments was really unpleasant. I wish the people interested in the BandD peghead debate would post a separate forum topic so they can bicker amongst themselves.

DC5 - Posted - 07/18/2019:  11:49:50

Lance, it's probably too late, but I hope you reconsider. There are idiots everywhere, and you won't avoid them by leaving. Please stay and ignore. I don't play a tenor or plectrum, but in reading posts and watching and listening to videos posted by you and others, I have been looking to purchase a beginner level tenor. Please ignore the jerks and keep doing what you do best.

There is no such thing as a fake banjo, only if a seller describes it as original. If you change your tires on a car, get a new roof, change a part on your stove, are they all fakes? Changing parts on a banjo can improve the sound, in many cases.. That's what any pro wants to hear. Lance, don't take it personally.
I have met you, and you are a very nice guy. Let's hear your reconsidered reply, and please promise to stay with us.

JackRyanNPU - Posted - 07/19/2019:  19:02:37

Many fake banjos.

Change the necks, rims, etc... they become fake.

A Zebra cant change its stripes.

G Edward Porgie - Posted - 07/23/2019:  08:01:58

A zebra can't change its stripes, but alterations can't change a banjo into a fake. It's still a banjo, just the same way as if you paint a zebra or bleach it's hide, it's still a zebra.

Now, if a person puts a Gibson logo on Kay, it is surely a fake Gibson, but even with that logo, it still happens to be a real banjo.

majesty - Posted - 07/23/2019:  09:34:54

Jack:
I agree to having a different opinion with you. Let's not make it an issue. My original reply was to get Lance back on the forum, and not to really discuss banjo collector debates. My mistake. P.S. A zebra will change it's stripes in warmer weather.
