Here's the "King of the Zulu's" on his birthday. Happy Birthday my Mentor!!! Eddy
"The Manhattan Minstrel" Eddy Davis playing a "Hot 5" song 1925-26 song by Lil Hardin Armstrong. Louis was once the King of the Zulu's. This is a very difficult tune to make something out of - because it's so simple with not much melody - BUT what Louis does to it - WOW! Well he was Louis!! It's been quoted he was born on the 4th of July. Please - Please listen to Old Gate Mouth play this little tune. Davis is playing his 1918 Gibson Trap Door Tenor with a 15 fret neck and a 12" head. His old buddy Vinnie Mondello put it back in playing shape for him.
