I met him a couple of times in the jazz festival circuit of the 1980s. Both of us up-and-coming banjo lions in our early twenties then. But Arno's technical skills were already out of this world, at that time.
I didn't misunderstand you, no. My reply was rather meant as mildly ironic: as if you indeed had said that Arno is a "monster", tabloid-style. Like the British gutter press usually does of notorious serial killers, for instance. Or of politicians who do not immediately jump on their bandwagon.
But once again, you got it absolutely nailed that Arno is 'banjoistically' something completely else. Some techniques developed on his own steam that I haven't been able to replicate to this day.
Something that slightly puzzles me, though: a Arno Hagenaars website does indeed exist, but it seems dead. No contact details given either. I avoid Facebook and Twitter, though. Well - social media generally, because of being intrusive. Maybe they're not. Or not as much as I believe they are. But I'd rather be cautious than sorry.
However, I'd surely like to say hello, for old times' sake. And if Arno is just on Facebook and Twitter, these days, it seems that I must forget about that.

Thanks for sharing Patrick. While I've heard of him a lot, this is my first time watching him. Now you have me searching for more vids. He's the real deal for sure! What I'd give to have the chance to jam with him!
