This is one for BHO's European contingent. It is in connection with a poster, in this forum, asking for information about banjo festivals in the US. All Frets was mentioned, amongst others. Which makes me wonder if something comparible is to be found in Europe.

Years ago, I went to the Banjo Festival in Reading, UK. Later on, this became the Banjo & Fiddle Festival. But I have no idea if it's still in existence. Furthermore I happened onto something similar in Holland, more or less by chance: an annual Banjo Day, organised by Holland Jazz Banjo.

I'm just curious. Are there any other banjo festivals in Europe that you know of?

I do...there is an annual event in Northern Germany called Banjoree; here's the link: banjoree.eu

Check the Archive! If you need help with the language, let me know...

Cheers,

Franz

I went to a banjo festival in Longford, Ireland a number of years ago. It was an excellent festival.

Franz,

Danke schön für die Hinweisung. Und auch für die sprachliche Aushilfe - aber ich glaube daß ich mit Deutsch schon klar komme. :-)

Daniel,

A thank you to you, too, for your suggestion.

To everybody else: any more suggestions?  Polle, for instance, might have heard of any in Denmark, Sweden, or Norway, I imagine. Finland even. I know there are BHO members from there. Is there anyone from Belgium, France, Austria, Switzerland who knows of  banjo meetings there? And perhaps Marco can tell us about the same in Italy?

Another thing is that banjo is far more wide-spread in the US than it is in Europe. Therefore I'm also wondering as to whether banjo jamborees/meetings "should" be seen as typical of American musical culture.

In France, there is the La Roche Bluegrass Festival, which draws artists from across the world and is sited in a beautiful location in the alps between Annecy and Geneva.

I'll be heading there this summer.

Hey Neil, that's a great festival!, Bluegrass oriented. I played there a couple times, I think the first fest they had. Also Le Puy en Velay Country fest.......awesome festival. I met some great French musicians.....Bluegrass and Jazz.....and great people. Have fun!
